Citizen science festival in St. Paul this weekend

Citizen Science Festival in St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. - This weekend at the River Center in St. Paul, more than 500 scientists from across the world will be sharing their citizen science research projects.

"Citizen science is especially powerful when the need for the research arises from a problem that's recognized." said Jennifer Shirk, acting director of the Citizen Science Association.

We know about the lead crisis in Flint, Michigan. This discovery came partially from a citizen science project. Throughout the weekend, project leaders will discuss with each other how to make citizen science opportunities more effective, and also open up their findings to the public.

On Friday evening, there will be a chance for the public to talk with scientists.

"Saturday there is a great family festival at the Science Museum of Minnesota; lots of opportunities to connect and do hands-on citizen science," said Shirk.
