ST. PAUL, Minn. - Como Zoo has a bit of a baby boom.
This weekend, the zoo welcomed its second baby zebra born in the last two months. The offspring of mom Thelma and dad Ulysses was discovered by zoo officials early Saturday morning. The foal was said to be up, walking strong and staying close to mom.
The gender of the new addition has not yet been determined.
Zoo officials say the newborn joins 2-month-old Savanna. Both have the same father but different mothers (Savanna's mother is Minnie).
A zookeeper said there were no complications with the birth of the new foal and both mom and baby are doing great.
The gestation period for zebras ranges between 10 months and a year.
