Armed robber targets U of M student

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota has issued a Crime Alert following another armed robbery that victimized a student on-campus.

Investigators say the crime occurred just before midnight Friday, April 25. on University Avenue near the University Avenue Ramp, just to the south of Williams Arena. The victim was walking on the south side of University Avenue when a lone suspect jumped out of the bushes, threatened her with a handgun and demanded her phone. The victim gave up her phone and the suspect fled east on University Avenue toward TCF Bank Stadium.

Fortunately the victim was not injured.

The armed robber is described as a black male, about six feet, two inches tall with a muscular build. He was wearing a dark hoodie that was pulled low over his face, and dark jeans.The gun is described as a black, semi-automatic handgun.

While the robbery did occur on campus, the victim reported the incident to Minneapolis Police so it is currently a Minneapolis Police Department case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Minneapolis Police Tip Line at 612-692-8477 and reference case number MP-14-135621.

The U of M has a policy of issuing Crime Alerts for crimes that may pose an ongoing threat to University students and staff.
