WACO, Texas - Waco police say a Baylor University student was killed while bicycling with his girlfriend when a vehicle struck him and then fled.
Police say that 19-year-old David Grotberg, a native of Fergus Falls, was hit late Thursday night. Police say witnesses told officers that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the bicyclist about 10 p.m. The driver didn't stop and fled the scene.
”Witnesses told officers that a white vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound and struck the male on his bike causing fatal injuries,” Waco Police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said in a news release early Friday morning.
ETMC and Waco fire units responded and attempted life-saving efforts on Grotberg, before he was taken by ambulance to Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Medical Center. It was there he was pronounced dead.
Grotberg's girlfiend, also a Baylor student, was not injured but she did see the crash.
