New leads in Wetterling abduction

PAYNESVILLE, Minn. - Investigators are following up on dozens of new leads in the Jacob Wetterling case.

Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says stories this week about a series of attacks on young boys in the mid-1980s in Paynesville have led to at least 30 calls and emails to his department.

Jacob was abducted in 1989, two years after the Paynesville assaults.

Investigators are now taking a fresh look at the similarities between Jacob's disappearance and the Paynesville incidents.

Jacob was 11 when he was abducted by a masked gunman near his St. Joseph home in October 1989. He has not been seen since and the case remains open.

Anyone with information should call Stearns County authorities at 320-251-4240.
