Suspect dead after St. Paul officer-involved shooting

ST. PAUL, Minn.- One man is dead following an officer- involved shooting in a parking lot just off University Avenue overnight Wednesday

The shooting happened around 2:15 a.m. at the Valley Apartments on the 200 block of University Avenue East.

St. Paul Police spokesman Sergeant Paul Paulos says that dispatchers received a 911 call from a woman who told them a man was sending threatening text messages from outside her apartment buildings. She told them that he was known to carry a gun.

Paulos says when officers arrived and approached the suspect shots were fired and the man was struck at least once. Emergency life-saving methods were used, but he was declared dead on the scene. No one else was injured.

Early Wednesday afternoon St. Paul Police reported on Twitter that officers did find a firearm on scene. They did not say if they believe it belonged to the dead suspect.

The officers involved in the incident are a 7-year veteran of the the force and a 2-year-veteran. Both have been placed on 3 days of paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
