GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- This Earth Day, use your smartphone to make smarter choices for our planet. We featured some mobile apps to help green your life on KARE 11 News Sunrise.
1. Ecobee- Helps homeowners conserve energy, save money and reduce their environmental impact. The app automates energy conservation making it easier to save on energy costs without sacrificing on comfort.
2. Vridealong - Helps people carpool/bikepool in a secure and reliable manner, therefore lowering your carbon footprint.
3. No Dry Clean - Helps you find eco-friendly drycleaners
4. Locavore - Sends notifications of local farmers' market, gardening tips and community garden volunteering opportunities, and has a guide to vendors that carry local foods.
5. Green Gas Saver- Tells you when you're accelerating or taking a turn too fast, which can hinder your gas mileage. The idea behind the app is to keep the ball in the center of the screen. When you accelerate too quickly, the diameter of the ball increases and an alarm will sound, indicating you're accelerating too quickly. Green Gas also keeps a running score so you can see how well you're driving in real time.
