Tornado assistance center brings victims to resources

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minneapolis and Hennepin County officials have opened a one-day tornado assistance center for victims of Sunday's tornado.

The event is happening today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

A variety of help is available to residents of the storm, including food, clothing and other emergency supplies. Medical and mental health care officials will be on hand. Legal assistance will also be offered.

"All kinds of services that will be critical for people getting back on their feet," said coordinator Cathy ten Broeke.

Bus transportation to Project Connect will be provided with hourly trips until 2 p.m. Tuesday from three locations:

- The Family Assistance Center at 1025 Broadway Street NE
- Pilot City at 1315 Penn Avenue North
- Cub Foods at 701 West Broadway

Starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday emergency help will be available at a new location: 

- Farview Park 621 29th Avenue North
