High School grad Ryan McCartan has a big future in theatre

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- Minnetonka High School graduate Ryan McCartan is busy.  He recently returned from Germany where he was working on a project involving other outstanding young performers, and also Bobby McFerrin.

This comes after a trip to New York where McCartan picked up the award for Best Actor at the National High School Musical Theater Awards.

The accolades don't stop there.  McCartan is also one of two students nationally to be named a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts.  For that, McCartan got to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

With all those honors in his back pocket, you would think McCartan would be Broadway bound.  Instead, he says he will train and learn in the Guthrie/University of Minnesota BFA program right here in Minnesota, meaning Twin Cities theatre-goers will be able to watch this talented young performer for at least a few years more.
