SOMERSET, Wis. - An ambitious and eclectic music festival scheduled for the Somerset Amphitheater has been cancelled after what promoters call slow ticket sales.

SoundTown Music and Camping Festival has been scheduled for July 27-28. Approximately 50 artists were scheduled to entertain festival guests on three stages, including top national acts and local bands from the Twin Cities and Wisconsin.

"We would have loved to have SoundTown return to the Somerset Amphitheater this year, but unfortunately the ticket threshold wasn't met for a festival of that magnitude," Somerset Amphitheater General Manager Matt Mithun said.

Ticket buyers will be issued a full refund for their concert tickets, camping and service fees. Promoters cite a purely financial decision, claiming that tickets didn't reach the required threshold for feasibility.

A post on SoundTown's Facebook page reads:

We wish we didn't have to share this news with all of our loyal fans, but SoundTown Music & Camping Festival was cancelled today. We would have loved to have SoundTown at the Somerset Amphitheater this year, but unfortunately the ticket thr...eshold wasn't met and promoters had to make a difficult decision to cancel the event.

From the start, we've greatly appreciated all of your feedback relating to the 2012 festival. Your excitement around our artists was always great to see!

If you purchased tickets, you will be issued a full refund for concert tickets, camping and service fees.

Information on refunds will soon be posted on the SoundTown website.
