Family asks for prayers after search for loved ones suspended

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. – Officials in Colorado have called off the search for a missing father and son from St. Louis Park.

Searchers say they were unable to find any sign of the two who are believed to have gone missing when hiking in the mountains on Wednesday near Idaho Springs.

In a statement on Facebook, family friend Andrea Bouzrara called the search "thorough" and "comprehensive".

"The McManus family wants to express their deep gratitude for all of those who were involved in the search for their loved ones," Bouzrara wrote. "Katherine and Lauren are comforted in this time of great loss by all of you and by their faith in God."

McManus' wife Katherine and daughter Lauren, along with other family members remained in Colorado Wednesday night.

Bouzrara said McManus's family flew in Tuesday night from England where he is from only to find out late Wednesday afternoon the search was suspended

"It's a bit overwhelming. My emotions go up and down as well because I love them dearly and it's just a tragedy that is unthinkable," said Bouzrara earlier in the day before the search was suspended.

Searches told KARE 11 it was a difficult decision to stop.

"It's always difficult; we're always going to second guess," said Steve Wilson, a spokesperson for the Alpine Rescue Team.

He and others on the team helped in the search alongside Clear Creek County Sheriff officials

The Alpine Rescue Team is made up of volunteers who, along with others, worked through difficult weather conditions since Sunday in the mountains near Idaho Springs, Colorado.

"We've searched everywhere, in some cases we've gone back over it, and gone back over it again and there's just no areas left," he said.

They have not ruled out searching again in a smaller scale once the snow melts and Smith said if experienced hikers found clues of the McManus family in the coming weeks, they would resume the search. He said right now, however it was too dangerous to continue.

Meantime, the family and their friends are asking for prayers.

"Keep the prayers coming, that's really comforting for them," said Bouzrara.
