Fridley student hit by SUV, seriously injured

FRIDLEY, Minn. - A fifth-grade boy is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by an SUV Thursday afternoon.

At about 3:15 p.m., police were called to the 500 Block of 61st Ave NE on a report of a child hit by a car. Officers arrived to find the boy suffering from serious injuries. He was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center for his injuries.

Witnesses say the Fridley Middle School student was crossing the street when an eastbound SUV struck him. Police say the driver did not appear to be impaired and is cooperating with investigators.

The case is being investigated by the Fridley Police Department, Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, and the Minnesota State Patrol.

Police add staff at Fridley Public Schools are providing support for students who witnessed the crash.
