Gas leak in downtown Mpls. contained, roads open

MINNEAPOLIS - Downtown Minneapolis streets have reopened following a natural gas leak in the area of Hennepin Avenue and 7th Street.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday, Minneapolis Police reported CenterPoint Energy turned off the gas and said the area was safe.

The leak was in a busy area that includes the Marriot Hotel, City Center, First Avenue and the Pantages Theater, among other attractions and businesses.

Traffic was blocked off from 6th Street to 8th Street South and Hennepin to Nicollet Avenue South. Metro Transit also rerouted bus traffic to avoid the area.
