WAYZATA, Minn. -- Chronic inflammation is a sneaky thing that, if left unchecked, can lead to serious health issues.
Certain foods can contribute to inflammation. Others can help fight it. No surprise, these are healthy foods you should have in your diet, anyway.
GetHealthyU's Chris Freytag turns to herbs and spices for the anti-inflammatory properties of ginger, turmeric, thyme, rosemary and others. Using herbs and spices can have the added benefit of cutting down on salt in your cooking.
Garlic and onions can also add flavor to your meals, and fight inflammation.
Dark, leafy greens are another good choice. Think spinach, kale, broccoli, collard greens. They contain anti-oxidants and also vitamin E.
Nuts contain healthy fats that also provide protein and fiber. Chris says almonds are a superstar in this category.
Fatty fish, like salmon can reduce inflammation, and provide Omega-3 fatty acids.
Berries are in season now, and not only are they tasty, they are packed with the most antioxidants of all fruits.
