Taking the stress out of packing a healthy lunch

Four tips to packing a healthier lunch

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn.- If you are like most parents, mornings are hectic. The idea of packing a lunch for the whole house can be daunting. If you pack it the night before you run the risk of soggy food. Fitness expert, Christ Freytag, with GetHealthyU.com has four tips for easier packing.

  1. Use containers with dividers- easier for the kids - then they don’t have a bunch of little containers to keep track of and you can pack the night before. Freytag purchased reusable bento boxes- microwave, dishwasher, freezer safe.  BPA free.  Cheap - approx $1 each on amazon.com

  2. Use leftovers - Plan dinners to also correlate to lunches - leftover taco meat, cut up chicken, rice ,etc.  You can make tacos, burritos or quesadillas with them.

  3. Healthy Packaged foods - Lots of prepackaged dips, yogurts, string cheese, snacks that are healthy options now - be a label reader - check out the 365 at whole foods or the simply balanced at Target

  4. Make it fun - think shapes, toothpicks, popcorn… add a little “happy” to the lunch box

  5. Make your own “lunchables” - cheese, crackers, slices of meat, add fruit, veggies , yogurt - easy and healthy to do at home!
