Chuck E. Cheese's norovirus outbreak investigated

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. - Health investigators are looking into what they call an outbreak of norovirus at a popular restaurant in Maple Grove.

Hennepin County Health Department spokesman Bill Billknap says the department received calls from numerous people reporting they became sick after eating at Chuck E. Cheese's in Maple Grove the this past weekend.

Billknap says by going through cash register receipts the department was able to contact customers and found numerous people reporting gastrointestinal illness symptoms. Victims include both children and adults. None of those sickened have required hospitalization.

Preliminary indications are that someone, perhaps a customer, came into the business already having norovirus and spread it to others.

Health Department investigators are inspecting the restaurant food prep and food handling areas, and checking with employees to see if any of them are sick with norovirus symptoms.

If anyone was at the Chuck E Cheese in Maple Grove and they are sick, Billknap says they should call the Hennepin County Health Department at 612-543-5230.

Hennepin County Health Department officials want to remind people to wash their hands vigorously before eating.
