WHO: On Monday Sept 21st, Aegis Therapies, along with Chris Freytag, National fitness expert, will lead several of our Minnesota locations in a live WALK YOUR AGE event. The walkers will include residents, ages 50 to 90 years old, who believe in staying active and healthy. ALL of our locations nationwide will be participating in this same program. IT'S A NATIONAL EFFORT TO GET MOVING DURING ACTIVE AGING WEEK! Aegis Therapies is one of the largest owners and managers of assisted living for seniors and they are headquartered in Minneapolis which is why the live events will take place here.

WHAT: The Active Aging WALK FIT for SENIORS is an indoor walking program to encourage all residents in the facilities to walk their Age in steps each day throughout the week. Some will walk more - the AUDIO program has 4 fifteen minutes segments to encourage all functional levels of fitness. There is a facilitator at each location and the CD has Chris' voice over to start off each walk....the music is geared towards the seniors in both theme and pace. Age and ability will vary from avid walkers to some who have to stay seated in a chair and tap their toes.

This event is about two things: having fun and getting people moving! Indoor walking is an easy, all-around healthy activity that has the same benefits as walking outside-it leads to better cardio fitness, reduced stress, increased energy and generally just makes a body feel great! Basically, indoor walking is marching-it can be done moving in place, while moving around the room or facility, or by sitting in a chair and tapping your feet.

WHEN/WHERE: Sept 21st is kickoff day - Chris will do several live events in Minneapolis - timing varies at different facilities....can start early for media. (Wayzata, Hopkins and/or Eden Prairie) The indoor walking will continue daily throughout the week nationwide.

SOME FACTS:

Active Aging Week promotes the benefits of a healthy lifestyle on a national scale by giving older adults the opportunity to experience activities and exercise in a safe, friendly and fun atmosphere.

Active Aging Week is the annual health promotion event organized by International Council on Active Aging, an association that supports professionals who develop wellness and fitness facilities and services for adults over 50. Events are delivered by ICAA's members and colleagues. http://www.icaa.cc/aaw.htm

Monday, September 21 through Sunday, September 27, 2009.
Active Aging Week is held each year during the last full week of September.

The goal is simple for Active Aging Week, an annual health promotion event promoted by the International Council on Active Aging®: Give as many older adults as possible the means to experience wellness activities and exercise in a safe, friendly and fun atmosphere. ICAA accomplishes that goal through their colleagues who plan and host the week's events.
