Hopkins man charged in Mpls. park murder

MINNEAPOLIS - A Hopkins man has been charged in connection with a weekend homicide case in Minneapolis.

Chance Adams, 26, is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and possession of a firearm or ammunition by a felon. He is expected to make his first court appearance Tuesday.

According to the criminal complaint, 18-year-old George Earin Pineda, of Minneapolis, was walking through the park near Lyndale Avenue North and Webber Parkway shortly after 3 a.m. with a friend when Adams approached them with a gun. He ordered the two to lie on the ground and he stole items from their properties. Then he fired multiple shots, killing Pineda but missing the other victim.

Witnesses and the 9-1-1 caller helped police identify Adams as the shooter.
