I-90/94 challenge: no fatalities in Minnesota

ST. PAUL, Minn. — No deaths were reported in Minnesota on either of the two targeted Interstates during the I-90/94 Challenge.

The I-90/94 Challenge was a coast-to-coast enhanced enforcement effort in which 15 states joined together with a goal of zero deaths on Interstates 94 and 90 between Washington state and New York August 1-4.

The Minnesota State Patrol investigated 84 crashes on I-90 and I-94 during the enforcement period. They issued 6,360 warnings and citations.

Thirteen of the 15 states did not report a fatality on the two interstates. Montana and Ohio each reported one death.

The I-90/94 Challenge was initiated by the Minnesota State Patrol in response to the International Association of Chiefs of Police goal to reduce U.S. traffic fatalities by 15 percent in 2014.
