Jeronimo Yanez's neighbor reacts to verdict

In the 29-year-old former officer's tranquil suburban neighborhood, his neighbor says "he's welcome back here."

RAMSEY COUNTY, Minn. - One day after a jury acquitted former Saint Anthony Police Officer Jeronimo Yanez of all charges in the shooting death of Philando Castile, "it''s over and done with," said a man who lives near the Yanez family in a suburban neighborhood in Ramsey County.

Dale Heffron has been living in this community for over three decades.

"We kind of look out for each other in ways as best we can," said Heffron. "This is a good place for families with kids."

Heffron recalls meeting Yanez, his wife and his baby daughter a year ago during a neighborhood gathering. But the "polite" family man has kept to himself since the shooting, according to Heffron.

"He got a fair trial. That's all I can say," said Heffron, when asked about the verdict. "That's our justice system."

Yanez is "welcome back here," added Heffron. "I hope he feels safe. As far as I'm concerned, he can stay right here."

Yanez's neighbor believes this chapter in Minnesota history is over and done with.
