Lindsey Vonn: 'I have my insecurities like anyone else'

Olympic and world champion skier Lindsey Vonn shed her clothes for a promotional video to tout her new book, although she said in a televised interview on Tuesday to promote it that there are times she struggles with her body image.

“I think I’m strong when it comes to working out and everything I do on the mountain, I feel confident in myself,” Vonn said on NBC’s Today show. “A lot of the time, I don’t feel that confident. I have my insecurities like anyone else. Being on the mountain is the only time I feel 100% sure of myself.”

Vonn’s book, Strong is the New Beautiful, went on sale Tuesday. It’s mostly a workout book, although there are themes she said she hopes will resonate: love your body, find physical activities you like to pursue and don’t worry about restrictive diets.

She said on Tuesday she questions her beauty the most while she’s in Hollywood.

“I haven’t really felt like I fit in on the red carpets,” Vonn said. “I’m not your typical body type. I have insecurities. I’m very self-conscious. When I’m standing next to (actress) Emily Blunt, I don’t compare to that. That’s always been really tough for me.

“I have a lot of great friends in Hollywood and know a lot of great people, but I don’t think I can compare. I’m bigger, I’m muscular and I don’t think I can fit in.”
