BLAINE, Minn. - Police in Blaine are investing two separate deaths Tuesday, one involving a workplace accident and the other a body discovered near the National Sports Center.
Officers were dispatched just before 9 a.m. to a business on the 10700 block of Mankato Street. They arrived on scene and found paramedics and fire crews performing life-saving measures on a man in his late 20s from Missouri. Investigators learned the man had been unloading large diameter plastic pipe from his semi when one of the pieces fell on him.
The man was rushed to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids where he died of his injuries.
A short time later authorities were called on reports of a body discovered at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
According to Lt. Dan Pelkey of the Blaine Police Department, a morning maintenance worker notified police of the body around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The worker told police he discovered the body floating in a drainage ditch behind the facility.
On Wednesday, the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as 52-year-old Jennifer Ng.
At this point foul play is not suspected but investigators continue to work the case.
