NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Three people were killed and two others suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash near Northfield on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred just before 3 p.m. near Highway 3 and County Road 47 in Dakota County.
State Patrol said that a Toyota 4 Runner was traveling northbound on Highway 3 when the driver lost control and spun out on the icy roads. The Toyota slid into the southbound lane and was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer.
The 20-year-old driver of the Toyota, who is an Evanston, Illinois resident, is in serious condition as is one of his passengers.
James Adams, 20, of St. Paul, Paxton Harvieux, 21, of Stillwater, and Michael Goodgame, 20, of Westport, Conn., were all killed in the crash. Facebook pages show the men killed either attend or had attended Carleton College in Northfield.
The driver of the semi was not hurt.
The Northfield area received about three inches of snow.
