3 treated for possible overdoses at Mall of America

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - Authorities say three people were treated for possible drug overdoses at the Mall of America Friday night.

Around 8:30 p.m., Bloomington Police were called to the South Food Court. They arrived to find a 34-year-old man from Minneapolis unconscious. As medics worked to resuscitate him, a 35-year-old woman from Minneapolis began losing consciousness. Police believe both were overdosing on drugs.

About 20 minutes later, a Minnesota State Patrol trooper stopped a vehicle on the southeast side of the Mall of America. A person inside the car was possibly overdosing on drugs.

Police say all three people were together prior to their medical emergencies.

Bloomington Police did not specify which drug may have been involved, but do say they are aware of the recent overdoses in Anoka County. The Anoka County Sheriff's Office says heroin is to blame for overdoses there, which killed two people.

On Sunday, the Anoka County Sheriff's Office told KARE 11 the overdoses there and at the Mall of America do not appear to be related.
