Couple returns to Mpls. after spending year in BWCA

Living in the BWCA

MINNEAPOLIS -- It's one of the most beautiful places in our state. But do you think you have what it takes to spend an entire year in the Boundary Waters wilderness?

Explorers Dave and Amy Freeman took their backpacks, a tent and a canoe and headed for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness on Sept. 23, 2015.

They would spend the next 366 days, facing whatever Mother Nature threw their way – wind, rain, cold and snow – all in the name of conservation.

The Freemans spent the year in the wilderness in hopes of raising awareness towards their cause – to protect the area from the threat of proposed sulfide-ore copper mining.

Their whole trip was filmed as part of a documentary called "Bear Witness” that will debut on Oct. 15 at the Fresh Coast Film Festival in Marquette, Michigan.
