Families scramble to stay active in freezing temps

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - What is sweeter than a Monday off from school? Try free rides at Nickelodeon Universe at the Mall of America.

Despite the cold temperatures, a high number of people still ventured into the mall so management decided to treat visitors to a day of fun indoors, spokesperson Sara Schmidt said.

That was welcome news to moms like Michele Jorgensen who brought her twin boys to the mall.

"We'll probably be here for a few more hours. There's no real reason to go home," Jorgensen said.

Just a few blocks away from the mall Sam and his brother checked in on their mom, Stephanie Fox, vice president of Tunheim Partners. Tunheim was one of the few places that allowed employees to bring their kids to work.

While Fox attended meetings, her sons played games and watched movies in the break room, which was better than the alternative.

"Probably stayed home and tried to work or my husband would have stayed home. We would have missed work," Fox said.
