CHASKA, Minn. - Airbnb released data Tuesday showing just how popular home sharing was during the Ryder Cup.
"When else are you going to get, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 10 grand whatever your house is listed at for someone to stay in your house for a week?" Sarah Chambers told KARE 11 shortly before the Ryder Cup began.
She and her husband rented out their 3,200-square foot home in Chaska at the rate of $5,000 for 7 days. Other rates on Craigslist went as high as $25,000 for 7 days for a home a similar size and up to $40,000 on a VRBO site.
Airbnb data by county during Ryder Cup week is as follows:
Hennepin County - 2437 guests (144% increase over typical week)
Ramsey County - 508 guests (134% increase over typical week)
Carver County - 432 guests hosted during week of Ryder Cup (732% increase over typical week)
Scott County - 67 guests hosted during week of Ryder Cup (478% increase over typical week)
Hennepin, Ramsey, Carver and Scott combined - 3,444 guests hosted during week of Ryder Cup (163% increase over typical week)
Additionally, 215 were able to stay in the city of Chaska via local Airbnb hosts. That represents a 1265% increase in visitors over the typical week.
