Light rail train and car collide on Green Line

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Metro Transit investigators are looking into a collision between a car and a light rail train on the Green Line Friday morning.

Metro Transit spokesman John Siqveland says it happened about 8:20 a.m. at the intersection of University Avenue and Eustis in St. Paul. Siqveland tells KARE 11 the train was travelling eastbound on University and the driver of the car, also eastbound, made a left turn into the side of the moving train.

There were no injuries and damage to the light-rail vehicle is believed to be minimal.

A Metro Transit field supervisor identified the automobile that was pulled over about a block away from the scene and made contact with the driver. Metro Transit Police cited him for an improper U-Turn, as well as no proof of insurance.

The train came to a stop on the bridge spanning Highway 280 and auto traffic was only minimally impacted as crews worked to clear the scene.
