EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - Investigators are looking at the circumstances that led to an apparent drowning death at the Eden Prairie Community Center Thursday night.
Hennepin County deputies were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. on reports of a medical emergency involving a 34-year-old man.
Eden Prairie authorities say the man was swimming laps in the center's dive pool when the incident occurred. Community Center staff members attempted to perform CPR on the man until paramedics arrived.
He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead just after 9:30 p.m.
The man was using the pool during adult lap swim hours, which are not staffed by lifeguards in accordance with the center's lap swim policy. However, center employees were on scene and able to respond immediately.
The pool is closed until the Hennepin County Health Inspector can conduct a full inspection. It's expected to reopen to the public later Friday.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what may have led to the death.
