ROSEVILLE, Minn. - A 79-year-old Roseville man is dead after being struck while walking across a busy intersection early Monday.
Police say Charles Betts was crossing the intersection of Snelling Avenue and County Road B shortly after 5 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle. An off-duty officer traveling to work came upon the scene and provided medical aid, with the help of passersby, before the man was rushed to Regions Hospital.
He did not survive.
The driver of the vehicle, a 39-year-old man from St. Paul, is cooperating with police. A witness tells police the elderly victim darted into traffic that was moving at approximately 45 mph.
Police towed the vehicle to an impound lot, which is standard procedure in such cases.
The accident remains under investigation by the Roseville Police Department and Minnesota State Patrol.
