Snowmobiler dies in crash with ice house

LUCK, Wis. – A snowmobile operator is suspected of driving drunk when he crashed into an ice fishing house on a Polk County lake and killed the woman riding with him.

Polk County Sheriff's officials received the call about the incident just after 10 p.m. when a snowmobile traveling north on Bone Lake struck an empty ice fishing house. A 20-year-old female passenger on the snowmobile suffered head injuries despite wearing a helmet. She died at the scene of the crash.

The 21-year-old St. Croix Falls man operating the snowmobile was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drunken driving. He was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

The identity of the victim will be released at a later time.
