St. Paul welcomes first Hmong firefighter

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The first Hmong firefighter graduated from the St. Paul Fire Academy on Friday.

Tou Lo, 25, made the decision to become a firefighter as a teenager. He watched a documentary about New York City firefighters during the September 11th attacks.

Lo was one of 13 graduates welcomed to the department on Friday.

The graduation ceremony was held at the Paul and Sheila Wellstone Center in St. Paul. It was hosted by Chief Tim Butler and Training Chief Ken Gilliam.
