AURORA, CO. - Thousands of people, including some family and friends of victims, attended a vigil Sunday night to remember those lost in the city's horrific theater shooting.
The Mayor of Aurora, Steve Hogan, urged people to remember the victims, honor survivors, and start the healing process.
The names of the 12 people killed during the attack were read out loud during the vigil.
Each reading was followed by the words "We will remember you."
It was a powerful moment as the city struggles to cope with the tragedy.
Hogan said they are committed to do whatever it takes for how long it may take to help each other overcome their grief. He told the crowd their hearts are broken but their community is not.
"We will take this experience and use it to strengthen our commitment to each other. We will reclaim our city in the name of goodness, kindness and compassion. Let our city be a place where our vulnerable our supported by our strength. We will care for the families and we will care for each other," he said.
A re-occurring theme throughout the night was "Our city is strong" and "Aurora is strong."Mayor Hogan repeated again and again that they will not be defined by the massacre.
