BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - One person was killed and two others injured when the driver of a U-Haul truck struck a concrete support beam in a parking ramp at the Mall of America on Friday night.

The incident occurred at about 8 p.m. Emergency crews responded to a report of a piece of concrete that landed on a truck at a parking ramp at the Mall of America.

Rick Hart, of the Bloomington Police Department, said that the driver likely misjudged the height of the vehicle causing the driver to strike the concrete beam.

The person killed is a man in his early 50s, police said.

A witness at the Mall of America said he talked with the driver who was trapped inside.

"He grabbed my hand and he asked me to stay with him. I said, 'Do you have any kids?' He said, 'Yes, I have two kids.' I said, 'We will pray with you. God is with you,'" said Anthony Stands.

Traffic cameras showed the debris resting on top a U-Haul truck.

"The Mall of America is a safe place to go and to shop," Hart said noting that the incident was an accident and not due to any structural issues with the ramp.
