ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The hundreds of workers displaced by a devastating fire at Verso Paper in Sartell have a new job opportunity.
The catch? They have to move to Duluth to get the gig.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the NewPage paper company is holding a recruiting event at the Le St.-Germain Hotel at 404 W. St. Germain, St. Cloud. About 25 people showed up for the event. Recruiters said they expected that relatively low turn-out.
"Because the vast majority of my positions are going to require relocation, it's hard for a lot of people to be able to relocate at this point," said Richard Leever, a senior recruiter for NewPage.
NewPage has several positions open, including salaried positions out-of-state and hourly positions at their Duluth paper mill. The Duluth positions also pay less, given that the mill is a non-union operation.
