STILLWATER, Minn. - As is the case every year, the Minnesota State Patrol is stepping up it's DWI patrols for the holiday season starting Wednesday.

Thanksgiving Day Eve is historically one of the busiest nights when it comes to drunk driving. According to the State Patrol, 11 people were killed in motor vehicle accidents over the Thanksgiving weekend from 2009-2011. Six of those were caused by a drunk driver.

During that same time period, 1,631 motorists were arrested for DWI.

KARE 11's Bryan Piatt talked Wednesday with Lt. Eric Roeske of the Minnesota State Patrol about how we can all help keep the roads safe this weekend.
