Student pulled from middle school pool dies

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. - A student who was hospitalized after a near drowning in St. Louis Park Middle School's pool has died.

According to authorities, the 12-year-old boy died overnight at Children's Hospital.

Police say just before 9 a.m. Thursday, St. Louis Park dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call of a possible drowning at St. Louis Park Middle School, at 2025 Texas Avenue South.

A teacher had discovered the student in the pool at the end of a swimming class and performed CPR on the 12-year-old. Emergency crews then rushed the student to the hospital.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's office has not yet released the boy's name and official cause of death.
