Teen found dead after underage house party

MADISON, Minn. - Authorities are investigating the death of a southwest Minnesota teen in connection with an underage party where alcohol was likely being consumed.

Lac qui Parle County sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a party at a farmstead northeast of Madison shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday. When the first deputy drove up to the farm site about 20 vehicles were observed before a group of individuals was seen running from the area.

Around noon Sunday the Sheriff's Office received a report of a missing person, Michael Anyasike from nearby Dawson, who ended up being one of the people who ran from the party. A search of surrounding farm sites ended with the discovery of the 18-year-old. Anyasike was rushed to Madison Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Anyasike was a senior at Dawson-Boyd High School. Superintendent Brad Madsen says he was "very well known and very well liked. You saw him everywhere. He always had a smile on his face and to adults was very respectful." Madsen says Michael was a great athlete as well, who performed for Dawson-Boyd in both football and track.

Michael Anyasike has three younger siblings in the district, two brothers and a sister.

At this point an official cause of death for Anyasike has not been determined. Sheriff Rick Halvorson tells KARE 11 that foul play is not suspected, and no arrests have been made.
