Woman dies after being pulled from house fire in St. Louis Co.

MEADOWLANDS, Minn. – Officials say a woman died after being pulled from a house fire in St. Louis County early Thursday morning.

A man called 911 from his home located in the 7700 Central Avenue in Meadowlands, Minn. just before 1 a.m. saying his house was filled with smoke. The man stated he and his wife were unable to get out of the residence.

Fire crews were able to locate the man and his wife and remove them from their single-story residence. Both were transported to Essentia St. Mary's Hospital where the wife, identified as 72-year-old Karen Gosch, was later pronounced dead. The St. Croix County Sheriff's office says the husband, 75-year-old Jon Stossel, is in stable condition.

Authorities say the fire appears to have started near the kitchen area of the home.

Meadowlands is located about 42 miles northwest of Duluth, Minn.
