Hutchinson Officer Involved Shooting

HUTCHINSON, Minn - The man killed by law enforcement in Hutchinson Sunday night has been identified.

The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office says Luverne Christensen, 49, died as the result of a gunshot wound.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday, police were called to a verbal disturbance in the 500 block of Harmony Lane SW.

Hutchinson Police Chief Dan Hatten says officers from multiple agencies responded. They arrived to find Christensen in the home. A struggle ensued and shots were fired.

During the exchange of gunfire, a Hutchinson officer was wounded in the leg. He was flown to HCMC where he's being treated for a non-life threatening injury. The officers involved have not been identified.

The Hutchinson police force is made up of 22 officers. Those involved will likely be placed on standard administrative leave pending the investigation. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension continues to investigate the shooting.
