Melissa joined the KARE 11 Sunrise team in January 2014.
Previously she worked in Albuquerque, New Mexico at KOAT as a general assignment reporter. Before that she was a reporter for 24/7 cable channel News 12 Westchester in New York.
Melissa is a New York City native, born and raised in Queens. She is fluent in Spanish and swears she can understand any thick accent thanks to years of subway riding.
Alma mater: Brooklyn College.
Favorite book: "Game Change" by Mark Halperin and John Heileman. Even if you're not into politics, "Game Change" is chockfull of drama.
Describe your perfect day: Exploring my Uptown neighborhood, in search of the perfect brunch spot.
Favorite sport to play: Ping-pong. I have a mean serve, or so they say.
Favorite subject in school: Economics.
Why do you like your job: This is one of those rare jobs where you pray for more hours in the day and you're not staring at the clock, hoping for the workday to end. There's also something bizarrely addictive about watching major events unfold in front of you and then sharing your experience to thousands of others.
When I was young, I wanted to be: A tour guide in Paris.
Family: My two parents, Graciela and Arnolio, who never stop worrying and never stop loving.
