MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesotans in danger of running out of heating fuel can call a new hotline set up by the State Emergency Operations Center, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety announced Thursday.
The number: 800-657-3504 or 651-297-1304. Minnesota Department of Commerce staff will answer the phones 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. They can supply information about energy assistance and county resources.
Gov. Mark Dayton declared a state of peacetime emergency on Monday because of the cold weather and increased risk that households might run out of heating fuel.
The state fire marshal warns against using unvented heating appliances with an open flame. Everything should be at least 3 feet from heating equipment and portable space heaters should have an automatic shut-off.
