MAPLEWOOD, Minn - Mounds Park Academy in Maplewood is the kind of school where, to some extent, everybody knows almost everybody else, especially when you've been there a while.
Case in point? When Academic All-Star Cameron Meyer-Mueller graduates in June, she'll be leaving the school she has attended since she was 5-years old. Cameron is in her 13th year at Mounds Park Academy in Maplewood, and, while Cameron hasn't done quite everything possible at MPA, she's come close.
In her 3rd year as the school's yearbook editor, Cameron has earned academic letters in every year of high school while participating in orchestra, concert choir, and student council in school.
Outside school, Cameron participates in dance, holds down a part-time job as a waitress, and tutors girls in math in the 'Breakthrough St. Paul Program'.
Says Cameron, "This girl, it was like the end of the year and she said she received her first 'A' in math class that she's ever gotten, and I think I had something to do with that, so, it was really special."
Cameron is also special. She also runs track, was a captain of the girls soccer team, and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity. But, it's not what Cameron does, so much ashow Cameron goes about doing what she does.
Says MPA Chemistry Teacher Jane Anderson, "Her resume' does not show how much she brings to the table in terms of her enthusiasm and how much heart she's going to put into everything she does."
"Just because of the subject material, whatever I'm working on, it's just naturally I'm excited about it", says Cameron. "That's just my personality"
Cameron's still working her way through the college application process, and while she hasn't quite nailed down where she'll be next year, or, what she will major in, she does know that she wants attend a smaller, liberal arts school, where she hopes to build on the experience she's had at MPA. And who knows? Maybe it'll be a school where you get to know almost everybody else.
