Just when you thought the airlines had thought of every possible way to save money? paying for refreshments, checking bags and aisle seats, no more pillows or blankets and higher ticket prices. But now some airplane makers are offering a different money saving idea that would allow airlines to really pack in the passengers.
Airbus is pitching a standing room only airline cabin. The idea is that passengers would be strapped into a padded backboard, allowing dozens of more people to be packed into the same size plane.
So far, no airlines have agreed to try the idea.
There are no legal issues as far as the FAA is concerned. All that agency requires of airlines is that passengers be securely strapped into their seat for takeoffs and landings.
