"Cars" roared to the top of the weekend box office, debuting with nearly $63 million in ticket sales. The animated comedy features the voices of Owen Wilson and Paul Newman. It's the story of a hotshot race car that learns the value of slowing down after being sidetracked in a sleepy town. It's the Disney-Pixar cartoon brand's seventh straight hit. The weekend's other big new-release, "The Omen," pulled in almost $15.5 million to take fourth place. But the horror remake opened Tuesday to take advantage of the date 6/6/06, grossing a total of nearly $36 million. In narrower release, Robert Altman's "A Prairie Home Companion" premiered solidly at number seven with $4.7 million. "A Prairie Home Companion" features Garrison Keillor in a fictionalized behind-the-scenes portrait of his long-running radio program. It was filmed in St. Paul last summer.
