Rain forest creature found in Blaine
A nocturnal creature that calls the tree tops of rain forests home has been captured in the Twin Cities. A Blaine resident called animal control after they saw a strange, long tailed creature on their deck. When animal control officers arrived they had no idea what the animal was, but they knew it didn't belong around here. The creature they found was a kinkajou. This raccoon relative is now living at the Golden Valley Animal Humane Society. The kinkajou eats fruits and drinks flower nectar with it's long tongue. They use their long tails for balance and as a tool. They are rarely seen because they live high off the forest floor in the tree canopies of Central and South America. It is illegal to own this animal as a pet in Blaine and most other cities in Minnesota. Once the owner is located, they will be responsible for finding a certified sanctuary where the kinkajou can be taken.
