Excerpts of your commentsI miss seeing Marching Bands. I was part of my High School's marching band and drill team for all 4 years. It was wonderful. We marched for every football game - whether it was a pre-game show or half time. We also marched for St Patrick's Day Parades. I grew up in NJ and went to a Catholic High School. I would never trade those memories for anything.
Dear Jake,
You keep up your fight! … Believe me, Jake, if the people on the school board could understand the importance of the arts in education, you wouldn’t have to be out there alone marching with your tuba. They would be kicking up their heels and following right behind you!
Dear Kare 11,
As a member of a marching band myself I agree that they should bring back the Forest Lake Marching Band.
Thanks for your Extra on Marching Bands. My 15 year old son plays trombone in the Eden Prairie Eagle Marching Band … I hope that Forest Lake reconsiders their decision and I hope that Eden Prairie continues on with their fantastic program. I have a 10 year old son who is extremely excited about getting his first trombone on Wednesday!
I marched with the Irondale Marching Knights for 4 years as a trumpet player; the number one program in the state at that time. Those years of playing were amazing and I would have not changed one thing! Money is one thing but there are so many other ways around it, primarily fund raising.
I am in the Marching Band at Eden Prairie. It is one of the best experiences of my life. You meet so many new people and you create a passion for something you work really hard at. We all have pride in what we do and we all work together to make a great show. Its a great experience and if you have the chance to do marching band do it!
Relocating from North Dakota to Mounds View in 1987 was one of the best things we did for our children. Mostly because of the Irondale HS Marching Band program under the direction of Ron Olsen and Jeff Goldsmith. The marching band program gave both our children a sense of community and belonging. The impact it had on our son was life changing. …
I was in junior high band and color guard (flags) and high school band, marching band, winter drumline, summer drumline, and color guard with Forest Lake high school.(Dist 831)
The amount of discipline it teaches and the fun it offers are unmatchable and indescribable. I had a great time, learned so much, and GREW so much.....and the goosebumps from the music are simply a bonus!!!
