Standoff in south Minneapolis ends

Police say a standoff in south Minneapolis has ended Tuesday morning.

Early in Tuesday morning, Minneapolis Police officers responded to a burglary of a residence with shots fired at a dwelling in the 3100 block of 2nd Avenue South.

Shots fired were confirmed by the Shotspotter system. A suspect was identified and a vehicle description was given

At 6:00 a.m. officers responded to 337 East 25th Street for a 9-1-1 call from a female whispering into the phone that she needed police.

Authorities determined that the burglary suspect's vehicle outside that residence.

Officers tried to make contact with the residents of the building without success.

SWAT team was then called in and negotiators were in contact with the suspect from inside a townhome before he surrendered.

Two adult females and two children were released from the residence prior to the surrender.
