Saint Paul double checks convention security plan with Denver tour
Saint Paul's mayor and deputy police chief came to Denver to take a closer, inside look at the security operation at the DNC this week. As the mayor of the RNC's host city, Chris Coleman and Deputy Chief Matt Bostrom wanted to compare notes with his Denver counterparts. "The good thing I've noticed here in Denver, looking at their pedestrian mall on 16th Avenue, is that there's a great mix between those working and those in town for the convention," Coleman told KARE 11. "So, even with the security in place, the city is open and running, which is what we're aiming for next week in Saint Paul." Coleman said Minnesota's Capital City will probably take a different approach to Denver when it comes to visibility of the security patrols. "Our approach will be a little different as far as how officers will be dressed and how they'll be deployed," Coleman said. Virtually every officer involved in Denver's security detail is dressed in black. And groups of them right around heavily armed standing on trucks, conjuring up images of a war zone or martial law. "Every community reflects their own approach and we'll have a Saint Paul approach to this." He added, "We're ready for anything."
