OAK PARK HEIGHTS, Minn. -- Corrections officers let King Phillip Veiga out of prison last week, but Veiga didn't want to leave.
The 23-year-old told officials he was supposed to remain in prison until May 2009.
An officer from the Oak Park Heights Police Department was called to the correctional facility after Veiga refused to leave. The officer's report says Veiga wouldn't sign any paperwork stating his release date was Nov. 13.
Minnesota Department of Corrections spokeswoman Shari Burt says Veiga had served his time for a drug conviction. But she says Veiga didn't want to leave prison because he didn't think he had served all his time.
Burt says it's not the first time an inmate has been reluctant to leave prison -- many have been there so long that it feels like home.
